Classes at Yama Yoga Queenstown
Vinyasa
Vinyasa is a lively style of yoga designed at connecting one asana to the next in a smooth flowing sequence. This helps focus the mind by synchronising our breathing with movement, a fantastic movement-led form of meditation.
Power Vinyasa
Power Vinyasa is a more challenging form of Vinyasa that focuses on building strength with more advanced postures. This style of yoga is recommended for intermediate to advanced practices rather than beginners.
Hatha
Hatha classes involve more static postures than Vinyasa classes. This means they are often slower in pace but still involve a element of strength from holding postures for longer. There is more emphasis on different breathing techniques to remain calm whilst staying still.
Dynamic Hatha
Dynamic Hatha involves a blend of static postures and movement flowing from pose to pose. It will always include some breath techniques (pranayama), creating a very all-rounded practice. Dynamic Hatha is recommended for beginners through to advanced practitioners.
Yin
Yin classes are slower, floor based classes where poses are often held for around 5 minutes. This is to affect the deeper layers of the physical body - bones, tendons, ligaments - great for stiff and achy joints. The longer holds can also challenge us mentally, building mental resilience. This is a great class if you have tight muscles, are feeling overly stressed, or are feeling the need to slow down.
Restorative and Yoga Nidra
In this class, our teachers will place you in Restorative positions to evoke deep relaxtion, before guiding you through a session of Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is also known as Yogic Sleep. It is a guided meditation that places you in the parasympathetic nervous system (calm state) and is said to improve stress, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, sleep issues, and support the immune system and overall healing of the body.
