About Yama Yoga Queenstown
Yama Yoga Queenstown is inspired by the 8 Limbs of Yoga
Traditional Yoga is based on mastering 8 practices to reach Enlightenment (or a state of Bliss);
Yamas - Behaviour in our external world
Niyamas - Personal disciplines for inner harmony
Asana - Physical Practice
Pranayama - Breath Control
Pratyahara - Withdrawal of the Senses
Dharana - Single Focused Concentration
Dhyana - Meditative Absorption
Samadhi - Enlightenment
The Yamas are how we conduct ourselves within community. There are 5 Yamas known as;
1. Ahimsa (non-violence)
2. Satya (truthfulness)
3. Asteya (non-stealing)
4. Aparigraha (non-attachment), and
5. Brahmacharya (right use of energy).
The name Yama Yoga has been chosen for our studio as we hope to teach students to embody these ethical practices not just in our external world but also within ourselves, as this is what we believe brings harmony and peace.

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”
— Dalai Lama
